THE ETERNAL CITY

In May 2019 I went on a school trip to Rome and I really had a great time.

Rome is the capital city of Italy and it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Lots of tourists from all over the world visit the city every year because of its historic monuments and art sites.

It is in Lazio, a region which is in west-central Italy. From Subiaco, you can easily reach the city by car or by bus. It will take you about an hour and a half.

Rome is not the ideal place to visit on a day trip because the city is huge! Anyway, I can suggest a very interesting sightseeing tour  which you can take in just one day!

First of all, we went to Villa Borghese Gardens  where there is also a small lake. It is the most popular public park in Rome and it is a very relaxing place.

Then, we went to Pincio Terrace. From there, you can have an amazing panoramic view of the city.

After that, we went to the Spanish Steps, the famous staircase in Piazza di Spagna, it is considered the widest and longest staircase of Europe. Then we  walked to the  Trevi Fountain, a very famous fountain where tourists enjoy throwing coins because of a legend which says if you throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain, you will visit “the Eternal City”  again.

We also visited  the Pantheon which is  a “chef d’œuvre” of Ancient Roman architecture and it was originally built as a temple for all the gods

Then, we walked to Piazza Navona where we saw the beautiful Fountain of the Four Rivers and took lots of photos!

We walked to Piazza Colonna which is  the square, situated on the Via del Corso, where there is the Palazzo Chigi (seat of the Italian government) and the famous  Marc Aurelius’ Column.

We walked back to Piazza di Spagna to see the famous Barcaccia Fountain and to take a group photo on the Spanish Steps.

Finally we walked to Piazza del Popolo and then we got home. We were certainly happy  but exhausted  too!

Unfortunately we didn’t visit the Colosseum, one of the symbols of the city.  I hope I will get the chance to visit it after the pandemic turmoil.

I think visiting Rome is a must for everyone and I know for certain that they will enjoy it!
