Dear Kobe,
I still can’t believe what happened. Nobody
believes it. Yet, that’s it! You died leaving a gaping hole in the whole world.
The fact is that you were not just an incredibly brilliant professional basketball player who
took the ball and scored. No, you were a “legend”! You have always
been, on and off the pitch. You have always been a fantastic person, with a
bright smile, ready to laugh and make people laugh.
But why you, Kobe? Why, among all the wicked people
in the world, did you depart this life? Probably the only wrong
thing you did was to tell the
referee to go to hell in various languages! You died with your
beloved daughter Gigi, leaving your wife Vanessa and three other beautiful
girls in despair.
I can’t understand your tragic death! Your
absence is enormous for everyone, in the same way as the Staples Center missed
your dunks when you retired from basketball in 2016. Your relationship with
basketball was unique! It is amazing to think of all the records you
beat: the only player in NBA history who scored 60 points in his
last game, the youngest player who won the Slam Dunk Contest, the only player
in NBA history to score at least 600 points in the postseason for three
consecutive years, the youngest player to
start in an NBA All-Star game at the age of 19 years, the only basketballer who won an Oscar in 2018
for his contributions to "Dear Basketball,'' an animated short about his
relationship to the game. I think that’s enough, even if there are so
many other records …
It is the moment to say goodbye. Without a
doubt, you will continue to live in the heart of every person who
loves sports, you will always be a source of inspiration for many
young people, but above all you will continue to be a “legend”. And
do you know why you will never be forgotten? Simply because "Legends Never Die"!
